Long Branch
Fleet Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance inspections, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing major components on vehicles and equipment. The Diesel Mechanics position is based out of our Long Branch location.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and ensure the timely and effective repair of any identified problems
- Inspect, diagnose and repair assigned vehicles and equipment
- Utilize vehicle computer electronics to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign necessary repairs
- Estimate time and material cost for repairs and requisition of new parts
- Effectively communicate equipment status and repair progress to management.
- Perform service calls for emergency machine deficiencies
- Conduct daily inspections and safety checks on vehicles and heavy equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with OSHA and other safety standards
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in related field/work environment
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver license
- Eligible for work in the U.S.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position as needed with or without reasonable accommodations (including but not limited to lifting items over 20 lbs)
- Skill in operating tools needed to complete necessary repairs
- Ability to diagnose defects and repair various heavy machinery
- Ability to utilize fleet maintenance software program by Manufactures

The role of the forklift operator will be to work cohesively with the management team in order to safely and efficiently operate gas/propane/diesel/electric powered lift machines to move, stack, organize and rotate inventory throughout the property. To safely load and unload delivery vehicles with inventory and to track inventory for audits. To stack and organize various sized boxes/bags/trays in storage closets and shelves. Must be able to safely traverse a step ladder and to climb on various levels of terrain to accomplish tasks. Must maintain a clean, unobstructed lot/driveway/surface area for safe/efficient travel on equipment/vehicles. Experience not necessary for applicant. Training will be offered/provided.
Requirements & Responsibilities
- Drives sit-down and stand-up forklifts, and other industrial equipment such as snow machines, landscape equipment and manual/automated pallet jacks as needed.
- Moves hazardous materials.
- Maintains a clean work area.
- Organizes lot and categorizes equipment/inventory.
- Stacks crates, pallets, lumber, snow plows or other material.
- Ensures the safe and efficient movement of goods.
- Follows safety regulations and company guidelines.
- Checks that loads are centered and properly stacked.
- Performs daily inspection of equipment.
- Determines when repairs need to be made on equipment.
- Rotates stock so that oldest items are shipped or used first.
- Loads and unloads product from and onto tractor trailers/ customer vehicles.
- Quality assurance (QA) duties, including reporting product damage and shortages.
- Shrink wraps goods or otherwise secures them and prepares them for transport/storage.
- Documents arrival, departure, and movement and storage of goods, checks trucking manifests and bills of lading, assists with maintaining inventory, and coordinates with Inventory Manager.
- Work in both cold and hot weather environments and during inclement weather conditions with appropriate safety and weather apparel provided by the company.
Qualifications & Skills
- Ability to read and understand packaging, shipping documents, and safety guidelines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, peripheral vision, and ability with spatial relationships.
- Efficient individual with excellent time management skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of basic tools and vehicle maintenance a plus.
- Must pass a physical examination and drug test.
Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Previous warehouse experience a plus.
- Prior experience as a forklift operator a plus.
- Forklift or heavy machinery certification a plus.
- Completion of forklift driving course, a plus.
- High school diploma or GED, preferred.
- Previous OSHA training a plus.
- Hazardous materials training, as needed.
Under general supervision, the Small Engine Mechanic repairs gasoline and diesel engines used to power landscape equipment, compressors, generators, pumps, and similar machines in accordance with trade standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Repairs gasoline and diesel engines used to power lawnmowers, garden
tractors, weed whackers, chainsaws, blowers, chippers, edgers, snow removal
equipment and similar tools/equipment. - Uses hand tools, locates causes of trouble, dismantles engines, and
inspects/examines parts for defects. - Replaces or repairs parts, such as rings and bearings.
- Cleans and adjusts carburetors and magnetos, starts repaired engines and
listens to sounds to test performance. - Where required, occasionally perform maintenance welder job duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum one-year related work experience, five years preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to respond to questions from manufacturers, customers, and management.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Certificates or Licenses Required
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
- Kawaski Engine Technician
- Briggs & Stratton certified Technician
- Koehler Engine Technician
- Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
- Maneuvering in and around equipment
- Bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, crawling

Work Environment
- Work is performed in our repair facility or outdoor environment.
Hourly Rate to be Determined based on Experience.
$500 Signing Bonus.
